HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid
Nationally Recognised Training
Delivered in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines
In real emergencies, situations do not always go according to plan. Multiple casualties, serious injuries, moving injured people and complex medical emergencies can be challenging without the right preparation.
This Advanced First Aid and CPR Course provides practical, hands-on training designed to prepare participants for challenging workplace and community emergencies.
Participants will develop the confidence and skills required to coordinate emergency responses, manage multiple casualties and provide advanced first aid until professional medical assistance arrives.
Training is delivered in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other recognised national standards.
Through realistic scenarios, participants will gain experience using specialised equipment for first aid, resuscitation and oxygen therapy.
This course is delivered as a blended program combining online learning with face-to-face practical training.
- Pre-course online learning component
- Practical face-to-face training and assessment
- Training available at your workplace or a Heart Restart training venue
This course covers essential and advanced first aid skills including:
- Performing CPR and life-saving first aid
- Managing heat and cold-related conditions including hypothermia and hyperthermia
- Responding to head, neck and spinal injuries
- Controlling life-threatening bleeding using tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
- Managing casualties experiencing shock
- Providing oxygen therapy during complex emergencies
- Using specialised first aid and resuscitation equipment
Realistic simulated emergency scenarios will help participants develop the skills required to coordinate responses, manage multiple casualties and provide advanced first aid until emergency services arrive.
This course is delivered through a blended learning format combining online study with practical face-to-face training.
Pre-Course Online Learning
Complete the required online theory component before attending practical training.
Duration: Approximately 4 hours online learning
Face-to-Face Training
Practical hands-on training including emergency simulations, equipment use and assessment activities.
Duration: Approximately 5 hours face-to-face training
Your skills and knowledge will be assessed through practical hands-on tasks, simulated emergency scenarios and a short written assessment.
Practical Assessments
- Performing CPR on an adult using bag-valve-mask, oxygen, AED and recovery position
- Performing CPR on an infant
- Managing anaphylaxis and severe allergic reactions
- Assisting with asthma emergencies
- Managing choking incidents
- Treating bleeding, shock and minor wounds
- Managing nosebleeds
- Responding to fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains
- Responding to snake and funnel-web spider bites
- Coordinating a multiple casualty emergency response
- Controlling life-threatening bleeding using appropriate equipment
- Providing oxygen therapy during complex emergencies
- Maintaining resuscitation equipment
- Completing two incident report forms
Written Assessment
Participants will complete a short multiple-choice quiz to confirm their understanding of first aid knowledge, procedures and emergency response requirements.
Per Participant
Includes online learning, practical training, assessment and nationally recognised certification upon successful completion.
To participate in this course, students must be physically able to complete the practical activities required.
This includes performing:
- 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor without stopping

This course requires completion of:
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
To complete the online pre-course learning component, students will need access to:
- Computer, tablet or smartphone
- Reliable internet connection
When you successfully complete this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment containing the following nationally recognised units:
HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid
HLTAID015 – Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy
HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
In line with the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines:
- First aid certificates should be renewed every 3 years.
- CPR and advanced resuscitation skills (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) should be refreshed every 12 months to remain current and confident.
