This combined first aid and oxygen administration course provides participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence required to respond effectively to medical emergencies.
Participants will develop essential first aid skills while learning how to safely administer oxygen during emergency situations where oxygen therapy may be required.
Ideal for healthcare, community services, workplace and community environments, this program prepares participants to provide effective and potentially life-saving care.
By completing this course, participants gain comprehensive first aid training alongside the ability to use oxygen administration equipment safely and confidently.
Training is delivered in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and recognised national standards.
This course is delivered as a blended program combining online learning with face-to-face practical training and assessment.

- Training available at your workplace or a Heart Restart training venue
Participants will gain skills in:
- Providing first aid and CPR in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines
- Performing CPR on adults and infants including AED use and recovery position
- Managing anaphylaxis, asthma and choking emergencies
- Managing bleeding, shock, wounds and minor injuries
- Responding to fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains
- Managing envenomation including snake and funnel-web spider bites
- Administering oxygen to adults and children during emergency situations
- Completing incident documentation requirements
Course durations may vary depending on the delivery method and participant requirements. The following are the minimum possible durations.
Refresher Face-to-Face Training
Face-to-face practical training and assessment session.
Duration: 4–6 hours
Blended Delivery
Online learning combined with face-to-face practical training and assessment.
Duration: 6–8 hours face-to-face contact time
Full Face-to-Face Delivery
Complete classroom-based training including theory, practical skills and assessment.
Duration: Minimum 8–11 hours
Online Learning with Face-to-Face Assessment
Complete online theory before attending practical assessment.
Duration: Minimum 4 hours face-to-face contact time
Participants will complete both written and practical assessment tasks to demonstrate their knowledge and emergency response skills.
Practical Assessment Activities
- Perform CPR on an adult including AED use and recovery position
- Perform CPR on an infant
- Manage a casualty experiencing anaphylaxis
- Manage asthma emergencies
- Manage choking incidents
- Manage non-life-threatening bleeding and shock requiring minor wound cleaning
- Manage nosebleeds
- Manage fractures and dislocations
- Manage sprains and strains
- Respond to envenomation including snake and funnel-web spider bites
- Administer oxygen to adults and children
- Complete an incident report form
Theory Assessment
Participants will complete a written assessment consisting of short-answer and multiple-choice questions to confirm understanding of first aid and oxygen administration procedures.
Per Participant
Includes training, assessment and nationally recognised certification upon successful completion.
To participate in this course, students must be physically able to complete the practical activities required.
This includes:
- Performing CPR on the floor for 2 minutes without stopping
- Demonstrating rescue breathing techniques on training manikins
Entry Requirement
Participants completing this course will complete:
HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
This meets the current CPR competency requirement for the Basic Oxygen Administration unit.
It is recommended participants have literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 2.
To complete the online pre-course learning component, students will need access to:
- Computer, tablet or smartphone
- Reliable internet connection
Successful participants will receive a Statement of Attainment containing the following units:
HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
22575VIC – Course in Basic Oxygen Administration for First Aid
Recommended renewal periods:
- HLTAID009 CPR: Refresh every 12 months
- HLTAID010 Basic Emergency Life Support: Renew every 36 months
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid: Renew every 36 months
- 22575VIC Basic Oxygen Administration: Refresh every 12 months
